Intensive Care Airway Management in the ICU
Within the ICU, intubated patients are at a heightened risk for additional diseases, pneumonia and morbidity.

Providing real-time continuous monitoring of the trachea, ETView’s TVT™ enables early detection and corrective action in cases of tube displacement and properly-controlled management of secretions, thereby reducing morbidity related to inadequate suctioning of secretions, tube positioning and occurrences of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia.

It is expected that the TVT will significantly lower healthcare costs and reduce hospitalization days attributed to these complications. In addition, the continuous monitoring capability will reduce the need for frequent and costly fiber-optic bronchoscopes or mobile chest X-rays for verifying tube position.

Currently in clinical use in over 40 hospitals, the TVT enables effective airway management by continuous monitoring of patient airways.

Continuous monitoring of tube position still plays a major role in many procedures, such as those requiring repositioning of the patient during the operation (e.g., back and hip surgery), thoracic surgery, thyroid surgery, and in circumstances where it is anticipated that the patient will remain intubated after the procedure in ICU.

In addition, the TVT provides a simple and cost-effective solution in various elective surgeries where difficult intubation is anticipated e.g. micrognatia, poor Mallapati score, gastric bypass for morbid obesity patients and others.

Intubation with the TVT eliminates the need for bronchoscopy for placement of endobronchial blocking devices for lung surgery and enables continuous visualization of airway status.

The TVT is for single use and eliminates sterilization time between procedures.

In the OR, the TVT provides for visualization and monitoring during airway access procedures such as:

Introduction of an endobronchial blocker for selective unilateral lung breathing

When performing a percutaneous tracheostomy with uninterrupted ventilation.

Difficult Intubation
Successful intubation in difficult situations Although considered common practice, intubation is often traumatic, difficult or unsuccessful.

According to the American Society of Anesthesiologists: "A difficult airway situation in a clinical setting is one in which a conventionally trained anesthesiologist experiences difficulty with mask ventilation, difficulty with tracheal intubation, or both."

By showing the larynx and entrance to the trachea on the monitor, the TVT could be used to solve the problems associated with difficult intubations which include:

Broken teeth due to the force of pulling the head up with a laryngoscope

Torn and bruised tissue and vocal chords due to repeated intubation attempts

Further medical complications due to inadequate oxygenation

Minimizing last resort procedures like tracheotomy, which result in infections

All of the problems associated with difficult intubations result in high medical costs. Difficult intubations are highly stressful procedures in which the patient's life and body is put at risk. By viewing images, the intubation procedure is made considerably easier.
